Animation and Character Voice Over by Dean T. Moody
Growing up during the Golden Age of Kid’s TV (the 1960s–in my humble opinion), I consider myself among the earliest aficionados of those amazing cartoon voices like Don Messick (Boo Boo, Muttley), Daws Butler (Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear, Quick Draw McGraw), and, of course, Mel Blanc (just about EVERY voice in every Warner Bros. cartoon). Their abilities continue to impress me to this day! I learned to especially appreciate these skills while taking classes in voice improvisation with Ginny Tyler (Davey and Goliath, The Flintstones, and many voices for Disney).
She taught me that animation often requires each actor to take on several roles, so flexibility and range are valuable assets! I had a small role in a Youtube Roblox-inspired movie last year. It had been online for about three days, when a couple of kids came up to me at school and asked, “Mr. Moody, did you do a voice for a Roblox movie?” “Why, yes, I did.” “I told you that was him!” (accompanied by a shoulder slap) You want a little extra celebrity in your life? Who doesn’t?
